13th of september 2009, was the annual shogi festival of Japan Club Kuala Lumpur. In conjunction to the event, there would be KL 名人戦 closed (only for members of Japan Club) and also Professional 棋士, 小林健二 (九段) was honorary invited in celebration of his promotion of 9-dan.
Xinwen accompanied Ryou Takehito to the Japan Club, as Ryou is participating in the Tournament. The tournament was categorized into 2: Adult and Teenager.
Ryou Takehito, best buddy of Course mate with Xinwen in Taylor’s College had been always enthusiast in the game of Shogi for 1 year while trying to pursuit his ambition to become a professional Shogi player, aiming to become the first malaysian shogi player.
He had represented Malaysia to participate in the AISEP event hosted every year randomly around the world. Nevertheless, he joined the KL Mejin Tornament, qualified in the preliminary round, he made it through the qualifying of KL Meijin Match (8 players), He won his first ladder match however resigned in the quarter final.
Despite failing to reach for the title match, Mr. Kobayashi looked up Ryou and hoping that he could get stronger in the following years.
Apart from just having the tornament, Kobayashi Sensei had intended to give a short lecture to the participants and also a simultaneous games with the participants.
Apparently Kobayashi Sensei was amazed with the performance of malaysian shogi players.
The event took place from 10 00 in the morning and ended sucessfully at 17 00. Free gifts were given to anyone who came.
